Winter Sale Savvy

Winter Sale Savvy

Being savvy when shopping a sale means the having ability to make good judgments. It means having the discipline to walk away from those items that are ‘just so cheap’ or ‘a really great deal’ or ‘only $X’. Without a doubt, its all those items that I see in the purge pile of a closet audit. Here are my 5 tips on how to navigate those winter sales like a stylist.

  1. Mindset. If our clothes are the building blocks to our image, why would you want to use cheap materials? Just as a sturdy house is built using strong materials, a versatile, elevated wardrobe is built on quality pieces. When you keep this mentality in mind, it helps to avoid making those fast fashion, too trendy, low quality purchases.

  2. Observe wearing patterns. What have you been reaching for this season? Does it need replacing? What have you been wishing you had? Items like these are great to seek out in a winter sale. Look for upgrades of the ones you have that you may not be able to afford at full price.

  3. Seek out timeless styles. You’ll likely only be able to wear an item a few times given the time we have left in the season, so looking for timeless styles that will still be relevant next year is key. Avoid items that are super trendy, if they sit in your closet for too long they’ll go out of style.

  4. Things to say yes to:

    1. Classic sweaters (look for natural fabrics such as wool, cashmere, cotton).

    2. Leather goods- belts, boots, pumps. Make sure there is an actual need so when you start next winter you won’t need to purchase something in this category. They don’t change much season over season so you’re more apt to want to wear them again next year.

    3. Items that are fresh for Spring. Is it a beautiful colored blouse that gives you spring vibes? Maybe its a lighter shoe or boot that will brighten your winter looks… an item that will elevate your look for the next season is a smart purchase.

    4. Something you’ve been eyeing that was above your budget.

  5. Fall in love. This goes for ANY purchase. You should LOVE it. If you don’t you’re just going to want to replace it when you find one that you do love. Think about something in your closet you truly love, something that makes you so happy. Imagine if EVERYTHING in your closet made you feel that way? Respect your closet enough to not allow sub par items in.
