What Inspires You?
Did you watch the Golden Globes this past Sunday? One of my favorite things about award season are the fashions-obviously. But when it comes to my lifestyle and the red carpet... there's quite a disconnect. Of course, I'd love to wear some of the embellished, formal looks as seen on the red carpet, but it isn't realistic for my lifestyle as I'm sure many of you feel too. This week, I'm bringing 8 Golden Globes inspired looks perfect for your next night out!
When it comes to recreating a look that is inspired by another, there are a few things I consider. I think this is such a fun skill to learn to help keep things in your wardrobe feeling fresh and to keep creating new outfit combinations! First, figure out what you love about the look. Is it the silhouette? Color scheme? A bold statement piece? Understanding what you love about the look can help you figure out what to pull from your existing wardrobe. Next time a look inspires you, consider these tips in order to recreate it for yourself!
1. Create a look inspired by the color scheme of your inspiration. For example, if you loved Zoe Kravit's look from the Golden Globes, why not recreate that look by wearing all black and adding a white belt! The essence of the look is still there, but you can tailor the pieces used to fit your lifestyle. This week there are a lot of looks that are inspired by the color scheme of an actress' look, remixed in an approachable way.
2. Create a look inspired by an accessory. I loved the quirky 'more is more' jewelry that Blake Lively wore in This Is Us... you can easily layer up pieces of your own to get a similar effect. This year black opera gloves were #trending. A black opera glove isn't something that is worn for everyday or even your casual dinner out. But if you love the drama it adds, you should wear it! Ask yourself how this item makes sense for your lifestyle... maybe by changing the material an item becomes more practical for you. This week I created a look around a long black leather glove. The drama is still present, but now the gloves become practical for the winter weather.
3. Create a look inspired by a silhouette. If it's a voluminous gown that's got you gasping, choosing a wide leg pant and a flowy blouse with a puff sleeve may provide a similar shape! Maybe you love a plunging neckline gown... opt for a deep V neck bodysuit. If you love a look for its strong shoulders and structure, adding an oversized blazer could provide a similar feel.
The more aspects from the look you can bring in, the more closely your recreation will resemble it! The beauty of being inspired by a look is just that... its inspiration. You, as the creator, can interpret a look in any way that YOU see fit. Don't get hung up on the fact that your pieces aren't exact and try to use pieces you already own in your closet!
