Red Carpet to Real Life: Golden Globes 2020
With award season upon us, naturally, you can find me on the couch watching the red carpet. If you know me, you know how much of a visual person I am. And if you really know me, you know how much I love dessert. So for me, red carpets are like a Chop House brownie sundae for my eyes, without the cals. (But if you live in South Jersey, check out the the brownie sundae at the Chop House, because those cals are totally worth it lol). So I was thinking one day, instead of just summarizing the red carpet for you and telling you my favs or fails, why not recreate some of the looks with my interpretation of what the real life, everyday version is! Since this is the first post in this series, going forward if you’re watching the red carpet and want to see how I would recreate a look, send me a message and I’ll include it in the post!
To summarize the Golden Globes fashion in a two words, suits and texture. Countless women opted for a tailored suiting look and nearly everyone (men included) featured a look with a lot of texture. By texture I’m talking velvet, beading, feathers and ruffles.
In addition to that, one common trend that surprised me and definitely says red carpet was the number of women wearing what I would call, ‘lingerie inspired’ looks.
Whether it syncs with your personal style or not, these looks are not exactly wearable for everyday. Here’s my take on a lingerie inspired look!
This look is mostly inspired by Kerry Washington’s look. The lace and satin give it that lingerie feel, but in a very wearable way. Layer the bralette under the deep V bodysuit so that a little lace peeks out making it sexy and classy. This look also brings in so many elements of texture giving it visual interest. The satin skirt, lace bralette, snakeskin bag and glitter heels all bring a different texture element. I love this look for a winter wedding or a fancy date night!
Here is another take on the lingerie look with inspiration from Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchette. This look incorporates the sheer sleeves seen on Gwyneth and the flowy skirt of both her and Cate. The thick leather belt and suede booties make this look more casual. I love the satchel purse with this look as it provides a structured element against the flowy, feminine vibe of the overall look. I think this would be a perfect look for dinner with your besties!
I hope this blog shows you that just because a look that feels out of your comfort zone or impractical for your lifestyle, that doesn’t mean you can’t be inspired by it and pull it off! All of the items featured in this post can be found here.
