A Transition Period Part II

A Transition Period Part II

It’s September now, so does that mean its fall? Pretty tough when it is still in the 80s here in NJ, but honestly, I’m pretty pumped about boots and sweaters. In last week’s blog I explained my tip for transitional styling. Here’s a recap if it hasn’t quite sunk in yet for you:

Pair one past season item with all items from current season.

I thought it would be fun to style some pieces from my own wardrobe to show you some examples of how I would style each item for summer, and then the pre-fall and/or fall ways to style it. I tried to choose items common to a lot of closets so you can apply some of these techniques to your own wardrobe!

  1. Neutral floral skirt styled for summer, pre-fall and fall. Note that the pre-fall and fall looks are styled with items typical to that season as you’ll see with each outfit example.

2. Floral flowy tank. Layer a tank under a sweater and let the bottom peek out to add an additional element of texture and dimension. Bonus transitional styling points if you pair it with white denim! You could also achieve this look with a blouse too and let the sleeves peek out.

3. Denim shorts. I featured the summer version on my IG stories last week when I demonstrated how accessories and layering can elevate a look of simple staples. Here I have transformed it into the pre-fall version! Swap the shorts for jeans and take this look straight into winter!

4. The Jumpsuit. This may be a bathroom logistical nightmare, but who would guess this is even the same piece?! Layer a sweater over the jumpsuit and french tuck it into a wide belt!

5. Swing Dress. I felt like I could have even styled this dress more ways! I love a swing dress, they can be dressed up or down, and you can eat Thanksgiving dinner twice and no one will notice! Accessories are key in a swing dress because they are such a blank canvas. I think the first two looks are pretty self explanatory (summer and pre-fall), but the third look I’ve styled the dress as a tunic and paired it with a pair of Spanx leather leggings. I tucked the dress in a little on the side and paired with snakeskin booties. I love the mix of textures here (just wish it showed up better in the photo). The last way I layered a top with embellished sleeves under and belted it! You could easily wear tights with this look too and take it right into winter!

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this… because I had fun making the looks for you all! I’d love to know if you try any of these ideas… feel free to leave a comment or tag/DM me!
