I came up with this concept of a ‘Garment Spotlight’ blog one night while I had a few glasses of wine. Its intended tagline, ‘What is it. Why I love it. Where to buy it. How to style it.’ Honestly, I’m sober now and I still think it was a creative idea. So here we are, the first of many in the Garment Spotlight Series, I bring you the shacket.
What is it? Its a shirt and a jacket in one. Not quite as heavy as a jacket, but not quite as light as a shirt. They made their way into fall fashion last year and are still here, as strong as ever.
Why I love it. I love the shacket because it is a great layering piece that can really transform a simple look. I also love their function. Fall temperatures can be tricky, so committing to a jacket might be too hot for your outing, but similarly, if you’re looking to layer up without bulk a shacket is a great idea.
Where to buy it. Right now you can pretty much find some variation of a shacket almost anywhere. I’ve seen cute ones at Target and Nordstrom, but this one that I am styling is from Amazon. Shop it here. For reference, I’m 5’7 and I’m wearing a medium.
How to style it. I’ve styled this shacket in 6 different ways and honestly I could have done more. Here are some key things to note when styling and with fit. A shacket is great layered over a sweater, so keep that in mind when picking a size. I love this shacket in particular because of its length. Last year shackets were typically hip length, which is still common, but I love this updated version. The long shacket makes it a great layer for over a midi dress and creates length which makes you look taller and slimmer.
Let me break down the looks for you so you can best recreate them at home!
