Spring's Best Denim

Spring's Best Denim

Denim continues to be a controversial topic for many of my clients and the women in my life. Finding the right pair seems to mystify women and ultimately wear them down into accepting a pair that is just ok. If you're still looking for your perfect pair, refer to an old newsletter here where I'm breaking down how to successfully find your best denim.

This week, I'm highlighting fresh ways to style denim for spring across petite, standard, and plus sizes, offering a mix of casual to dressy outfits in the season’s newest denim styles—from bootcut and straight-leg to barrel cuts and matching denim sets. Finding the right denim is all about fit, proportion, and styling details—here’s how to make this season’s trends work for you:

Inseam Matters – Petite? Look for cropped or ankle-length styles to avoid alterations. Taller? Opt for long or tall-specific jeans. Refer to my previous newsletter here on how to measure your inseam.

Rise is Key – High-rise elongates the legs, mid-rise offers versatility, and low-rise gives a relaxed, vintage feel. Your ideal rise is around the smallest part of your waist.

Structure vs. Stretch – Rigid denim offers shape and structure, while stretch denim ensures comfort and ease. If you're someone with a lot of curve to your frame, you're going to want a little bit of stretch to harmonize with your curves. Someone with a straight angular frame might prefer a more rigid pair.

Tailoring Makes a Difference – The perfect fit can be hard to find and sometimes it takes a tailor. Gapping in the back or jeans dragging on the floor? These are things a tailor can easily adjust to get the perfect fit!

Here are some new ideas on how to style your denim this season:

1. Matching denim sets create a sleek, streamlined look and is the easiest way to wear denim on denim.

2. Mix washes and silhouettes—try a structured black denim jacket with relaxed blue jeans for contrast.

3. Style a denim jacket with a maxi or mini skirt for an unexpected yet balanced ensemble. However if you're still wearing a tight, fitted classic style denim jacket its time to upgrade. Classic denim jacket styles are looser, more relaxed. I'm also loving the new takes on the denim jacket with bombers, blazers even trench coats being constructed out of denim.

4. Cropped wide-leg jeans pair perfectly with a tucked-in blouse and block heels for a flattering, leg-lengthening effect.

5. Full-length wide-leg jeans look polished with a fitted top and a belt to define the waist.

6. Flared and barrel-leg jeans bring a fresh, modern twist to classic denim. I love these styles paired with a heel for some juxtaposition.

7. Oversized cuffs and head-to-toe denim suits are bold yet wearable trends this season.

8. Create depth by mixing contrasting tones and proportions—avoid looking too matchy-matchy.

9. For a monochromatic look, pair a matching denim top with neutral accessories for an elevated feel.

With endless ways to style denim, this season’s trends offer something for every size, shape, and personal style—whether you're keeping it casual or dressing it up! Shop the edit here
