Your Next Casual Summer Outfit Inside

Summer is all about looking effortlessly cool (temperature) and chic. Summer activities have a more laid back vibe and your outfit should reflect that, all while still feeling polished and put together. Summer's casual vibe doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. From breezy fabrics to playful accessories, mastering the art of casual dressing during the summer months allows us to stay cool while exuding confidence.

Here are 3 tips to effortlessly elevate your casual summer wardrobe with ease and flair.

1. Accessorize. (Did you see that coming?! LOL) When the temps soar, the last thing I want is a fussy outfit. I typically opt for a simple tailored short and a tank with accessories for some visual interest. Accessories make even the simplest outfits come to life! I love a statement earring in summer because truth be told, sometimes it's just too dang hot for all the necklaces. A bag with texture, jewelry, sunglasses, even a hair accessory can make your look intentional and as if you thought about the outfit. Intentional styling isn't to be confused with trying too hard. I often hear clients are very concerned with looking like they tried too hard. I think the key to an effortless style vs. trying too hard is leaning into your own personal style and lifestyle. When a woman is comfortable in her outfit (physically and mentally) even the most elaborate outfit can appear effortless. As soon as you start dressing in pieces that don't suit you, it looks forced and can come off as you're trying too hard.

2. Look for sandals with flair. Can we ditch the plain or worse yet, rubber flip flops already?! I'm not suggesting we spend our days in heels, but when choosing a summer sandal, look for something with interest. Interest could be a metallic leather, an ankle wrap style, a pop of color, even a pair with metal embellishments or texture.  Adding a sandal with visual interest will elevate your casual looks all while adding an element of style.

3. Wear all white. There is something about an all white look in summer that says high vibes, luxury, effortless and cool. Bonus points if it's linen too! I often hear that women are afraid to wear white for the fear of staining it, or because they only wear black because it's slimming. Let me address both... stains are a real thing and I hate them just as much as the next, but you can't let a fear of staining something keep you from wearing it. A stain on a pink top is just as noticeable as it is on a white top. Any way you slice it, it's a stain. I also feel like worrying about something that hasn't happened is kind of willing it into fruition. I also hear that women avoid white for a fear of looking larger, also false. While yes, lighter colors attract, but monochromatic looks (wearing all the same color) are very slimming as it keeps the eye moving. Whenever we avoid horizontal lines (for example the line created when wearing a colored top and a different color bottom) it helps to lengthen the body, appearing longer, leaner and slimmer. Wearing all white can be just as slimming as wearing all black. Pair your white look with some raffia shoes for texture, a leather handbag and jewelry in your best metals for shine.
