Doing 'Ugly' with Style
‘Tis the season to wear all things tacky… or is it? Around this time I’m sure most of you will get invited to at least one holiday party that is Ugly Christmas Sweater themed. Sure, they can be fun and hilarious, but for those of you who still want to look stylish without being a total Scrooge, here are my tips for you.
When I think of an ugly Christmas sweater, I picture bright red and/or green, a crazy print and a 3D element. They usually have a lot going on, so people tend to pair them with jeans and call it a day. I think the key to taking your ugly ensemble from silly to chic is to really elevate the rest of your look. Why not pair your sweater with a cute sequined mini or glittery midi! Complete the look with opaque tights and a pair of heels or booties! A messy two finger tuck or even tucking the sweater in completely (if it isn’t too bulky) will also help to give you a waist under that boxy sweater. Skirts aren’t your thing? Try a chic shimmer pant, plaid trouser or my go to- Spanx faux leather leggings!
For those of you who are over the ugly sweater thing but don’t want to risk being the Grinch of the party without a sense of humor, try fun accessories! This year you can catch me in these cute Santa earrings or gold bow earrings. See the link here for some of my favorite Christmas accessories, perfect for any holiday party! Pair them with this cute ‘snowball’ sweater for a look that is fun and festive and oh so fabulous! These accessories are just the right amount of extra, making them perfect for the gal looking for an alternative to the standard ugly Christmas sweater.
The best part of these picks? They are all versatile! The sequined mini or leather leggings can be worn again for NYE with a cute top, and all of the accessories could work with your Christmas Eve or Day look!
