Star Spangled Style
Anyone else feel like this summer is flying by?! Fourth of July is coming upon us and it is always a highly celebrated holiday! BBQs, beach trips, pool parties… there are sure to be tons of gatherings and photos to document the day, have you thought about what you will wear? Here are some tips and outfit inspiration to step out in star spangled style.
Before we get into the details, I thought it was important for me to explain my thought process behind this blog. Let me first say I am proud of the country we live in and proud to be an American, but I don’t feel the need to drape myself in our flag. So no flag bikinis for me! Here are ways to dress festively, but still be stylish with versatile items that can be worn all summer long.
Here are a few tips to consider when dressing festive:
Don’t be so literal. This goes for all holidays. You don’t have to wear a shirt that says ‘Happy Birthday America’, or a striped suit with stars on it. Think outside the box. How about a floral print with red and white flowers or a dark denim and a white top with red accessories?
Don’t forget about the details. You can choose to be festive with small details too. I love a simple outfit with a red lip or a festive headband.
Think about your event and what will be comfortable and practical for what you are doing. When I’m getting dressed for a BBQ and I know its going to be hot, dressing to avoid showing sweat marks is top of mind. For the 4th of July, I would avoid red if you’re someone who sweats a lot because it will be super noticeable. When wearing blue opt for navy over cobalt to hide any signs of perspiration. If you’re going to be on your feet all day, maybe opt for a pair of white sneakers as your ‘white’ in Red/White/Blue.
Think about how you can wear it again. I never encourage women to buy just for the sake of buying. Holiday outfits can easily become a one and done situation and well, that’s just not smart shopping. So if you’re looking to purchase something new for the holiday, think about how you can wear it again. How can you style it differently to fit with your existing wardrobe and style? My go to rule is to try and style a garment at least 3 ways.
