From the Gym --> Gin & Tonics

I would consider the athleisure trend a blessing and a curse. Sure, its also nice that a wide variety of casual styles is considered acceptable and its nice to know there are comfortable options for nearly any function, but at the same time, I think its enforced this fear of being ‘overdressed’. When did that become such a bad thing?! Check out this blog to read more about that…

But am I wrong?! To think that at one point in time people used to get dressed in their Sunday best to go to the store, and now its seems like some people struggle to even put on clean clothes for a grocery store run. Don’t get me wrong, I am all here for the athleisure trend, in fact, you’ll find me wearing it on the daily if I am home. Which is how I came up with this idea for the blog.

A few weeks ago, impromptu plans popped on my schedule and I was dressed in head to toe in lounge clothes. With no time to change, I pulled myself together in a look appropriate for a casual night out of gin & tonics. Here are my tips to pull this transition off yourself…

  1. Avoid printed leggings or leggings with visible slogans/logos. 3 stripes down the back of your leg is a dead giveaway for Adidas leggings so opt for a solid black pair. If styled correctly, most people wouldn’t know a pair of black leggings you’d work out in from a nice pair from Spanx.

  2. Add an element of structure and texture. For the most part, athleisure is soft, stretchy, knit material with no shape. Adding some structure will balance out all the spandex and adding some texture will create depth and dimension.

  3. Tuck your athleisure in. I love to utilize a front (or side!) French tuck when wearing my sweatshirts. It does a 3 things —> reduces the bulk of a sweatshirt, defines your waist, and makes your legs look longer.

  4. Accessorize with statement jewelry. Its believable that you would wear studs to the gym, but not so much a big hoop or a glittery drop earring. Adding accessories that would would typically wear with a less casual look will help to elevate the athleisure.

  5. Complete your look with taller boots. Seeing your ankles and the bottom of the legging is a dead giveaway for your athleisure. With your leggings tucked in, someone may from afar think you even have on black jeans.

I decided to put this list of tips to the test! Check out how I took these athleisure looks from Gym to Gin & Tonics!

I added drop hoop earrings, a wool tan coat, drench tucked the sweatshirt and tall combat boots.

An boyfriend blazer is typically large enough to layer a sweatshirt under like I did here.

Don’t own a blazer like that? How about a shacket?

A tall knee or over the knee boot is the perfect shoe to camouflage your leggings! Here I also utilized a side French tuck and look how much longer my legs look!

I’d love to see if you try any of these tips out! Tag me or DM me on IG!
