I blacked out...
This typically happens when I have too much vodka or shots of tequila but that’s actually not what I’m talking about here. What I want to discuss is the amount of black that I find my clients wearing (and honestly, me too). Have we all become afraid of color? When you look in your closet is it a sea of darkness? A black hole? Lets breakdown why we’re blacking out. Which of these situations resonate with you…
—> You find yourself wearing all black because you want to hide. I see this often with clients. You think let’s just wear black so no one notices me, or to hide X part about my body.
—> You find yourself wearing all black because you feel strong and powerful in it. You put it on and you instantly feel chic and slim and sexy, yet understated.
Maybe its a combo of the two.
Wearing all black yes, can camouflage your least favorite body parts and yes, black is definitely associated with authority as we often see it in a tailored suit. But can every all black look be treated equal? Is there a right way to wearing all black? YES! Whatever your reason for wearing all black, I’ve got 3 tips to make your outfit a black beauty and not a bust.
Is your black garment faded? pilly? If your clothes are showing visible signs of wear, regardless of color, its an immediate ‘no’. This is rule number one of a closet audit, but also should be practiced daily. You’ve gotten good wear out of it, let it go.
Turn up the Texture. Touch your garments… do they all feel the same? If so, add some texture. Examples of elements of texture are suede, leather, a chunky knit, denim, sequins… Mixing textures together creates dimension and adds visual interest to your all black look.
Wear it with confidence. If wearing black doesn’t bring you joy and has become almost a means of survival, maybe its time for a change. Your wardrobe should excite you, it should bring you joy and support you.
